General Manager Job Overview

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to cross-functional teams, ensuring strong collaboration and consistent delivery of operational excellence across the organisation.
  • Oversee the effective management of the site, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Maintain accountability for process adherence, monitoring performance outcomes through KPIs and other metrics.
  • Lead the development and execution of strategic plans that support organisational objectives and long-term growth.
  • Manage profit and loss responsibilities, ensuring financial targets are achieved through effective budgeting, cost control, and revenue optimisation.
  • Support and develop staff through coaching, mentorship, training, and structured performance reviews, fostering a culture of engagement and continuous improvement.
  • Drive business development activity, working closely with commercial teams to identify new opportunities, strengthen client relationships, and expand service or product offerings.
  • Lead and coordinate projects from initiation to completion, ensuring that timelines, budget constraints, and deliverables are consistently met.
  • Implement process improvement initiatives focused on enhancing efficiency, minimising waste, and elevating service or product quality.
  • Establish clear targets for teams, interpret market trends, and inspire staff to achieve ambitious objectives.
  • Ensure full compliance with internal policies, external regulations, and all relevant safety requirements.

General Manager Job Requirements

  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to guide and influence diverse teams in demanding and fast-paced environments.
  • Proven background in strategic planning, operational management, and executing growth-focused initiatives.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing profit & loss statements and improving operational margins.
  • A track record of supervising and developing staff, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in business development, including successful client acquisition, relationship building, and identifying new opportunities.
  • Effective project management capabilities, with the ability to lead multiple initiatives concurrently.
  • Familiarity with process improvement methodologies—such as Lean or Six Sigma—is advantageous.

General Manager Salary & Benefits

  • Competitive salary circa £40,000- £65,000 depending on experience
